A sequel, Legend of Deification, will be released in early 2020. Plot [ edit] A Chaos Pearl, birthed from primordial essences, begins siphoning energies gluttonously. Tianzun dispatches his disciples Taiyi Zhenren, a portly Taoist immortal riding on a flying pig steed, and Shen Gongbao to subdue the sentient pearl. Due to its ability to absorb energy, Taiyi and Shen are unable to gain the upper hand. Eventually Yuanshi Tianzun contains the Chaos Pearl in his heavenly stove, separating the pearl into two opposite components: the Spirit Pearl and the Demon Orb. Tianzun places a heavenly curse upon the Demon Orb: in three years time it will be destroyed by a powerful lightning strike. Tianzun then instructs Taiyi to take the Spirit Pearl to be reincarnated as the third son of Li Jing, to be named Ne Zha. Shen conspires to steal the Spirit Pearl and in the ensuing battle, the Demon Orb is placed on the ritual altar instead, causing Li Jing's pregnant wife Lady Yin to give birth to a child, Ne Zha, whose demonic nature is apparent. Ne Zha's parents refuse to allow their son to be killed. Taiyi tells them that Ne Zha's fate is sealed: in three years' time the heavenly curse placed upon the Demonic Orb will kill him regardless. Li travels to Heaven with Taiyi in an attempt to plead for Ne Zha's life, but is told that the curse is unremovable. Meanwhile, it is revealed that Shen stole the Spirit Pearl for the Dragon King to reincarnate as his son, Ao Bing. The dragons resent their role as jailers of the Heavenly Court and being confined to a hellish existence on the ocean floor. They hope that through the blessed nature of a son born from the Spirit Pearl that dragon kind would be deemed worthy by Heaven, allowing the dragons to ascend. To tame his demonic nature and to make him happy, Ne Zha's parents lie to him, telling him that he was born of the Spirit Pearl and is destined to be a great demon hunter. Ne Zha studies under Taiyi and acquires great skills. Eventually becoming impatient, the impetuous Ne Zha escapes his confines to hunt demons. While chasing a water demon, he burns down a fishing village. Ao Bing also comes to fight the demon, but is eventually defeated. Ne Zha cleverly overcomes the water demon and rescues both Ao Bing and a little girl, but is nevertheless misunderstood by the townsfolk. In a rage, Ne Zha lashes out at the villagers, hurting many of them. Since Ne Zha is destined to die by lightning on his third birthday, his mother wants him to be happy in his final days. The Li household organizes a lavish birthday party for their son, inviting a nervous town to attend. Shen visits Ne Zha before the party, revealing the truth of his nature to him. Angry and upset, Ne Zha unleashes his true demonic form and nearly kills his father. Ao Bing helps return Ne Zha to his usual form and regain his consciousness. Feeling betrayed, Ne Zha leaves to await his fate. Shen says that if his deceit is revealed to Taizun then not only will he be punished, all of dragon kind will be condemned forever. Ao Bing, not wanting to betray his kind, decides to bury the town alive under a massive sheet of ice so there are no witnesses. Production [ edit] Inspiration [ edit] The film tells the mythological origins of Nezha, who is a protection deity in Chinese folk religion, and its story is loosely based on the literary version of the myth that forms two chapters of Investiture of the Gods, a Ming-dynasty shenmo novel, traditionally attributed to Xu Zhonglin, which incorporates various existing myths into a wider narrative. [2] The story has been adapted for the screen many times before, at least as early as 1927 [23] or 1928, [24] whether on its own (as in the 1979 traditionally-animated film Nezha Conquers the Dragon King) or as part of adaptations of the whole of Investiture of the Gods (such as the 2016 live-action film League of Gods). Pre-production [ edit] Director Jiaozi spent two years in total to write the screenplay, and the film was in production for three years. (I've already posted my review on IMDb, and I'd like to share my in-theater experience of Nezha on this site as well, if that is allowed by the policy. ) After months of rolling my eyes at the social media buzz about this supposedly "great Chinese animation", I finally found the one Regal theater in town that actually shows this Chinese-made movie. And oh boy, I'm so glad I did. Initially, I was so turned off by this movie's trailer, since it had all the worst stereotypes of a Chinese-made films, with all the cheesy expositions, cringey dialogues, and awkward read more.
Before I watched this animation, Nezha Zhi Mo Tong Jiang Shi, I've seen in a lot of reviews that Nezha is very ugly. I kind of agreed with them until I knew the reason why they decided to create him that way instead of cute and handsome kind of kid. It's because of who he is. So, I no longer think that Nezha is so ugly.
I kind of had a high hope for this animation because I've seen a lot of people were saying that this animation was so popular in China and a lot of people created a lot of accounts on Weibo. So, as long as I've seen it's out, I immediately watched it.
Nezha is one of my favourite animations as I was a kid. I've seen animation series about him when I was a kid. To this day, I still have that animation series on DVD. I really love Nezha story. That's also the reason why I watched this animation. But when I watched this animation, I found that it's a bit different from what I've saw. Still, it's not that bad.
This Nezha animation is kind of a good animation. They put some jokes between scenes. Some scenes are funny. I laughed out loud. Comedy is good, but sometimes, it makes the film less serious. Moreover, Nezha's mother character isn't that good. The way she talks in some scenes is kind of offensive. So, the character development needs to be better. I'm not saying that it's bad. But as for the one who loves to see more serious, I kind of want to see more serious than this.
Although this animation is quite good, but most of the characters are not that much pretty. So, if they made those characters cute, I think it'd be better.
All in all, this animation shows about the friendship. I really love to see it. Furthermore, it shows parents' love on their kids. When I saw that scene, I was touched and cried. The plot is quite simple, but it turned out to be a good animation. And I really love this animation. Hence, yeah, I've enjoyed it.

Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice was next with an average of $16, 176 in seven theaters; this is an excellent result for a documentary. Next up might be my favorite box office result of the year, as Mr. Klein and Ms. Purple had nearly identical openings at $15, 915 and $15, 734 respectively. It: Chapter Two matched its domestic opening weekend internationally, earning $94. 0 million on 26, 790 screens in 75 markets over the weekend. In fact, Chapter Two had a faster start in Russia earning $9. 20 million to $7. 28 million for its predecessor. The film had nearly identical openings in both Mexico ($9. 14 million) and in the U. K. ($9. 06 million). The film opens in France this weekend, while it doesn’t finish off its international run until it debuts in Japan in November. September 5th, 2019 It was an odd week on the theater average chart, as the number one film was a holdover. Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool ’s average was down less than 0. 2% to $18, 222 and it did this while doubling its theater count to 2. This is very impressive and bodes well for its future. The best new release was Ne Zha, which earned an average $17, 649 in 66 theaters. Animated films rarely do well in limited release and 66 theaters is a lot for a limited release, so this average is even more impressive than it looks at first glance. Finally, Official Secrets opened with an average of $16, 241. September 4th, 2019 Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw had a very steep decline in China, but still managed to earn first place on the international chart with $37. 9 million in 68 markets over the weekend for totals of $528. 7 million internationally and $$687. 9 million worldwide. The film plummeted 72% during its second weekend in China earning $27. 65 million for a two-week total of $170. 36 million. This drop-off is extreme, even for China. However, it doesn’t matter. The movie will hit $200 million in that market and $700 million worldwide, which is more than enough to break even and get yet another installment in the franchise. September 1st, 2019 Summer ended on a thoroughly mediocre note, with more August releases missing expectations than topping them. That said, it wasn’t a complete mess, with Hobbs and Shaw doing extremely well internationally, and some others heading towards profitability, if not becoming spectacular hits. September, on the other hand, should be one of the best months in the year, at least on the year-over-year competition. The month starts with It: Chapter Two, which could open with more than $100 million. By comparison, last September, only one film, The Nun, earned more than $100 million in total. Additionally, Abominable has a slim but realistic chance at reaching the $100 million milestone, so it should be a great month on the year-over-year comparison. 2019 isn’t going to catch up to 2018, but it should narrow the gap considerably. August 30th, 2019 It’s an awkward time for limited releases, as it is way too late for a summer box office run, but still way too early for Awards Season buzz. That said, there are some films on this week’s list that could do well in theaters, even if they never expand significantly. These include; Before You Know It, The Load, Ne Zha, and Official Secrets. August 28th, 2019 Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw roared back into first place on the international chart earning $119. 4 million in 68 markets for totals of $440. 4 million internationally and $588. 1 million worldwide. This includes a first place, three-day $99. 08 million debut in China, for a total opening in the market of $103. 06 million. Granted, films tend to have short legs in China, but a start like this will still give the film an easy time reaching $700 million worldwide, which is enough to be a financial success, even if it doesn’t match the previous installments in the franchise. August 21st, 2019 Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood started its international run in earnest with $48. 53 million over the three-day weekend, $55. 22 million including previews and weekdays. It was playing on 10, 054 screens in 59 markets and has a running tally of $65. 44 million after two weeks of release. Its biggest market of the weekend was either France or the U. K., depending on how you look at it. In the former, it earned first place with $7. 08 million on 683 screens. It also opened in first place in the latter with $6. 22 million on 708 screens over the weekend, and had a total opening of $9. 16 million. August 14th, 2019 Nezha remains the top draw in its native China and internationally. This weekend, it pulled in $68. 97 million for a total of $512. 19 million after nearly four full weeks of release. This doesn’t just make the movie the highest-grossing animated film in China, it more than doubles the previous record set by Zootopia. Additionally, it has entered the top five all-time in China, in local currencies, and will soon climb into fourth place over Operation Red Sea. August 8th, 2019 Nezha continued to grow in China, earning $128. 49 million over the weekend, which was not only the best film in China, but the biggest movie internationally. Furthermore, the film has earned $342. 33 million, putting it ahead of Zootopia as the biggest animated film of all time in that market. And it didn’t just tiptoe ahead of the competition. Nezha is over $100 million above Zootopia in China. I really hope it gets a release here, as not enough Chinese movies are seen outside of Asia. July 31st, 2019 The Lion King remained in first place on the international chart earning $142. 8 million in 53 markets for totals of $611. 9 million internationally and $962. 7 million worldwide. The film’s only opening this weekend was in Hong Kong, where it earned $2. 0 million opening in first place. The film has yet to open in Italy and Japan, so it will have no trouble getting to $1 billion before it finishes its international run.
